Department Overview and Development

The Department of International Business has been established for over 20 years. Thanks to the collective efforts and strategic planning of faculty and students over the years, the department has grown into a comprehensive academic institution offering a full range of programs, including Bachelor's, Master's, Executive Master's, and Doctoral programs (under the Department of Business Administration).

Operating under a continuous improvement cycle of “Educational Objectives – Core Competencies – Curriculum Design,” the department regularly reviews and refines its structure in response to environmental changes and the expectations of various stakeholders. Through this adaptive approach, the department has effectively defined its unique characteristics, which are detailed below:

1. Modular and Flexible Curriculum Design

National Dong Hwa University is the first national university in Taiwan to implement a program-based (modular) curriculum, a model still uncommon among universities nationwide. In line with the university’s academic policy, the Department of International Business has implemented a modular curriculum at the undergraduate level for several years. In 2014 (Academic Year 103), the undergraduate program was reorganized into two distinct specialization tracks:

  • Global Business Management

  • Service Marketing and Innovation & Entrepreneurship

A complete curriculum map has been developed to support this structure.

Building on the success of the undergraduate modular system, the master’s program followed suit in 2015 (Academic Year 104), introducing two corresponding concentrations:

  • Global Business Management

  • International Marketing Management

These modular tracks provide students with greater flexibility and professional specialization.

2. Diverse Learning and Exchange Opportunities

The department offers a wide range of learning opportunities to enrich student experience, including:

  • Modular course structures

  • Case-based teaching

  • Off-campus field visits

  • Overseas immersion programs

  • Capstone project presentations

  • Various competitions (e.g., case competitions, business simulation contests, entrepreneurship plan competitions)

  • Research workshops and seminars

3. Strong Emphasis on International Exchange

The Department of International Business consistently has the highest number of outbound exchange students in the university. We frequently organize corporate visits to multinational enterprises and facilitate student exchanges to regions including North America, Europe (e.g., Czech Republic), Asia, Oceania (Australia & New Zealand), and Mainland China, providing students with valuable cross-cultural learning experiences.

Furthermore, the department is actively establishing dual degree programs with overseas partner institutions. These programs offer students the opportunity to earn dual degrees and enhance their global employability.
